Freya loves nothing more than playing with her rescue dog, Indie, and enjoys crafts and swimming.
The nine-year-old came along to our show where she was able to fully enjoy the performance thanks to our British Sign Language interpreter.
As she is profoundly deaf it can be difficult for Freya to find activities she can enjoy, as her Mum Lynn explains.
“There are challenges associated with every activity. We tend to visit places that have hearing loops, interpreters, or subtitles. Visual based entertainment is by far the most enjoyable for her. Accessibility is not always high on an organization’s agenda sadly, so when it works well it is a huge relief to us that Freya can just be Freya!”
We’re happy to say that they were able to have fun on their visit to Circus Starr.
“We felt welcomed and that everyone involved just ‘got it’! It was very focused on how the children felt and no one was singled out for being different. We had a lovely family afternoon together and all ages enjoyed it immensely!”
It was only possible for Freya’s family to come and make precious memories together thanks to community-driven businesses. Lynn was grateful for their kind contributions.
“We’d all love to say a huge thank you to the supporting businesses. It makes a real difference to be able to attend such an inclusive event.”
