Lewis, aged 12 has been coming to Circus Starr with his little brother for the past five years!
Often feeling excluded and judged in day to day life, there is nowhere else he feels more accepted than at our show.
Mum Gemma told us how difficult it can be for him living with a diagnosis of a cyst on the brain, epilepsy, ADHD Autism and delayed development.
“Its hard daily as he has sensory issues, he struggles when it’s too busy or noisy. When he can’t cope he has meltdowns and people stare and make judgements. Society still doesn’t understand and is a cruel place at times. It can be horrible but we try to give him the same chances and experience as people without these challenges.”
Circus Starr were able to give Lewis and his family tickets to come along and experience our inclusive show, and they have never looked back!
“Having this (Circus Starr) to come to is allowing us to have quality time as a family, doing things together and not being frowned on by other people. We feel accepted and not outsiders and Lewis gets to experience this in a safe environment. We tried other circuses and we don’t get the same response and your staff are great with kid’s with needs.”
This thankful Mum also had a message for us to share with our kind business supporters who made it possible for the family to attend.
“You don’t realise how much it means to parents to have such a great time making and spending time like this with our children. It’s a magical memory!!!”
We can’t wait to welcome the family back for their sixth year, and it sounds like Lewis cant either! “We don’t tell him too far in advance as he gets so excited, all he keeps asking is ‘are we going now?’”
